Tuchel Criticizes Wembley Crowd Support Despite Dominant Wales Victory.
The England head coach voiced his sadness that the Three Lions team did not receive greater encouragement from the home crowd during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
The manager was happy to see his team maintain their good form, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter deciding the contest. Yet, he was unhappy with the energy at the national stadium.
“With one and a half training days to get ready against a drilled team and we did very well,” Tuchel remarked. “It could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We couldn’t score the additional goals. It was quiet. There was no support from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you give in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the team warranted more support today.”
“I support this statement. There’s nothing more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I hoped for a bit more support in periods where it gets difficult.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to regain energy, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Performance
Apart from risking a dispute among supporters, Tuchel also created controversy by excluding Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the move was validated by Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and netting his first international goal.
“That’s his style,” Tuchel noted. “He is a No 10 and he is vying for his position.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Loss
Craig Bellamy expressed hope that his team, who face a strong Belgian side in a important World Cup qualifier on next week, take lessons from their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this game,” Bellamy commented. “I wanted to assess our current level. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance gives me inspiration.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Watkins was taken off at half-time after hitting a post and will be a doubt when England play their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
